WHAT: NCT's version of the Tony Awards, the Capital Awards are designed to recognize outstanding high school musical productions and the students who work so hard on and off-stage to make them happen.
WHY: The Capital Awards is another effort by NCT to advance the performing arts by highlighting the work of the next generation of aspiring young performers.
WHEN: The NCT Capital Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts at 2 E. South Street, Raleigh, NC 27601
HOW: Schools/Arts educators will have the option to nominate their school in different categories such as outstanding orchestra, direction, choreography, etc.
Groups of three judges from the Triangle area, selected based on their professional experience in the performing arts and theatre education, will view the productions and assess them according to the program criteria.
In May, a ceremony with local and national celebrity presenters will be staged. Those schools recognized for Outstanding Musical production will get a chance to perform one number from their show as part of the awards production. Each student recognized for Outstanding Leading Actor/Actress and will also perform a medley in which the NCT Capital Awards musical director will choose. The evening will end with an All-School finale and all participating schools are invited to have four student representatives participate.
