Classes are labeled Performance (P) or Technique (T). Students over the age of 8 must take a Technique class to be enrolled in a Performance class.

Live On Stage
___________45 min-1 hour _____P___________Ages 5-18
Live on Stage, the ultimate musical theatre performance class, focuses on vocal training, choreography and staging of Broadway musical numbers, culminating in an end of semester showcase.

Live On Stage and Elite Company ___1 1/2 hour___P___________Ages 8-18
By audition only for advanced students. Professional choreography and higher level of musical material. Performance at end of semester showcase. Students must be enrolled in one additional class of any kind and originally enrolled in LOS to be considered (after acceptance, students can drop one class). Live on Stage Company is a one year commitment. Auditions will be held on August 21, 2010 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at the Conservatory. Live on Stage company students are eligible for the spring New York City trip.

NEW  Broadway Fit________1 hour____________T____________Adults
Adult class with a focus on total body conditioning class taught to the hits of Broadway.  Includes aerobic, body sculpting, stretching and yoga with emphasis on core development, strength, balance and fun!!  

Dance Classes


NEW  Beginning Ballet and Intermediate Ballet_ T___________Ages 8+ and 12+
Based on traditional ballet, these classes incorporate a combination of floor and center barre exercises.  They improve overall technique while facilitating a powerful body awareness that serves and benefits the needs of dancers, actors, and athletes alike.

Ballet I/II________________1 hour _________T___________Ages 8-Adult
Development of ballet technique focused on individual age and ability.

Jazz I __________________1 hour __________T___________Ages 5-Adult
No previous dance training necessary.  This level will teach the principles of beginning Jazz Technique and multi-style performance, including the basic terminology associated with posture placement, isolations, integration, balance, flexibility, precision, fluidness, dexterity, strength, rhythm, syncopation, and the fundamentals of weight shifting. 

Jazz II_________________1 hour ___________T___________Ages 8-Adult
Prerequisite- Jazz I or audition with instructor. A mastery of Jazz Technique acquired in Jazz I, continuing the development of style, ability and execution.  Concentration is placed on increasing dancer’s strength, flexibility and technique through warm-up, across-the-floor exercises and combinations. 

Jazz III________________1 hour ___________T___________Ages 14-Adult
Prerequisite- Completion of Jazz I or II or audition with Instructor.  A complete mastery of Jazz Technique and terminology acquired in Jazz II, continuing with the development of advance style, ability and execution.  A technical warm up combining elements of ballet, jazz, yoga and pilates will be followed by center work, across-the-floor exercises and short combinations.

Tap I _________________1 hour ____________T___________Ages 14-Adult
The student will gain knowledge of the fundamentals of tap dance.  The level of this class concentrates on the learning and drilling of basic steps and combining them to from a movement vocabulary that will result in short combinations.

Tap II_________________1 hour ____________T___________Ages 14-Adult
Prerequisite- Completion of Broadway Tap I or audition with Instructor. This class builds on prior knowledge of tap. Students will cover time steps, pull backs, tap turns, draw backs, and riff work. A core class for Advanced conservatory.

Muscal Theatre Repertory___ hour ____________P___________Ages 12-Adult
A technique class exploring different styles of choreography used in American Music Theatre dance.

Hip Hop _______________1 hour ____________T___________Ages 11-18
This class will teach the principles of beginning hip-hop technique with a strong emphasis on style and the foundation of basic terminology associated with posture placement, isolations, balance, flexibility, pop-locking, syncopation and weight shifting.

Turns and Jumps________1 hour ____________T____________Ages 12+
A technique class that includes various types of pirouettes, turns, jumps and leaps.

Dance Company________2 hour ____________P____________Ages 8-18
The Dance Company is a group of elite dancers that will perform on a regular basis at NC Theatre Studios as well as other venues in the area.  Members will be selected by auditions held in the spring. 

NEW Introduction to Contemporary Movement_1 hour T________Ages 8-18
An introduction to contemporary/modern/lyrical movement as featured on "So You Think You Can Dance" and in popular Contemporary Dance Musicals like "Fame" and "High School Musical I, II and III

Music and Singing Classes


NEW Group Voice_____

For the student who is new to singing, this course focuses on the basic concepts of vocal production including breath support, diction, placement, and tone color, basic music-reading skills and aural awareness. Students will receive individual attention in the context of a small group setting.

NEW Beginning Piano______________1 hour ____________T___________No Age Requirement
Learn basic piano skills in a relaxed group setting

NEW Music Theory-The Painless Way___1 hour ____________T___________Ages 12+
Class offers sight-reading and notation, intervals and ear training, triads and conducting patterns

Acting Classes


Creative Drama
________45 min____________T___________Ages 5-7
An introduction to acting through creative play, improvisations, story telling and movement.

Acting I - Storytellers____45 min-1 hour______T___________Ages 8-10
Students use creative drama techniques, basic acting exercises, character study, movement, language and imagination to create their own versions of traditional tales. Focus is on developing creativity and using imagination to examine how the actor is part of the story. Beginning terminology established.

Acting II - Improvisation_1 hour_____________T___________Ages 11-13
Students will use improv and light scenes as a fun way to approach beginning acting and character development.

Acting III - Scene Study__1 hour_____________T___________Ages 11-13
Students will apply basic and intermediate acting techniques toward working on scenes. Acting 3 students must have taken Acting 2 or had other prior experience. Acceptance in Acting 3 is up to instructor’s discretion. Acceptance in Acting 3 is up to instructor’s discretion.

Acting IV - Realism and Character 1 hour_______T___________Ages 14+
Students further hone their skills as developing young actors by working on individual actor training with a focus on Realism. Theatre games and improv are used with scene study to develop character.

Acting V / VI - College Prep_1 hour____________T___________Ages 14+
This advanced acting course emphasizes ensemble work, character development, script analysis, and introductions to college-level acting techniques. Acceptance into class is by instructor discretion or audition.

Acting Company _______2 hours____________P___________Ages 14+
This intense two hour acting performance course culminates in an end of semester performance of a short piece.  Emphasis is on realism and anti-realism, college level acting techniques, ensemble work.  Acceptance by instructor discretion.  Students must have taken Acting 5 or equivalent to be eligible

NEW Diction and Dialects_2 hours____________T___________Ages 12+
For all performers, this vocal class focuses on articulation and learning new dialects. A well trained speaking voice is a must for anyone wishing to land a role is a show.

Beginning Adult Acting __1 hour____________ T___________ Ages 19+
This introductory master class is for those who have desire but have had little experience in the study of acting. Actors will work through a combination of exercises and scene study and will focus on using the body and voice to communicate and express emotion.

NEW Film Acting____        1 hour               _      T      __             Ages 12+
This class will focus on scene study in the camera medium. How to have fun and bring their best work to the very technical world of film and television.
