The following is a description of classes for fall 2008.
Fall 2008 registration opens april 14th for returning students and april 28th for new students.

Tuition per appximate 13 to 15-week semester:
  45 min - 1 hour class = $350
  1 1/2 hour class = $425
  2 hour class = $500
  8 week Adult Acting = $250

Dance Tech Card: For Dance (T)echnique classes only!!  Students can attend any Dance (T) classes in the semester for their selected number of classes. Dance Tech cards count as one (1) class in discounts and is re-purchased each semester. Dance Tech Card fees as follows:

  15 classes = $350
  30 classes = $630
  45 + classes = $765
Family discounts: 2 classes 10%, 3 classes 15%, 4 or more 20%
 

Class descriptions:
Classes are labeled Performance (P) or Technique (T). Students over the age of 8 must take a Technique class to be enrolled in a Performance class.

 
Specialty Classes


Live On Stage
___________45 min-1 hour _____P___________Ages 5-Adult
Live on Stage, the ultimate musical theatre performance class, focuses on vocal training, choreography and staging of Broadway musical numbers, culminating in an end of semester showcase.

Live On Stage Company ___1 1/2 hour ________P___________Ages 8-18
By audition only for advanced students.  (auditions TBD after first of semester). Professional choreography and higher level of musical material.  Performance at end of semester showcase. Students must be enrolled in one additional class of any kind and originally enrolled in LOS to be considered (after acceptance, students can drop one class).

Audition _______________45 min-1 hour _____T___________Ages 11-18
This three-part course tackles each of the three disciplines in an audition setting.  Students will learn how to prepare for a dance call, and will come away with a prepared vocal selection and monologue.


Dance Classes


Pre-Dance
_____________45 min ___________T___________Ages 3-5
This beginning class will work on coordination, flexibility, and basic movement to prepare the young body for future dance training.  Some focus on beginning jazz and musical theatre dance technique.

Beginning Ballet_________45 min ___________T___________Ages 6-8
This course is for the beginning dance student. Focus will be placed on coordination, flexibility, and the beginning movement esential to creating a strong foundation for all other types of dance.

Intermediate Ballet_______1 hour___________T___________Ages 8-18
Further development of ballet technique focused on individual age and ability.

Jazz I _________________1 hour ___________T___________Ages 5-Adult
No previous dance training necessary.  This level will teach the principles of beginning Jazz Technique and multi-style performance, including the basic terminology associated with posture placement, isolations, integration, balance, flexibility, precision, fluidness, dexterity, strength, rhythm, syncopation, and the fundamentals of weight shifting. 

Jazz II_________________1 hour ___________T___________Ages 8-Adult
Prerequisite- Jazz I or audition with instructor. A mastery of Jazz Technique acquired in Jazz I, continuing the development of style, ability and execution.  Concentration is placed on increasing dancer’s strength, flexibility and technique through warm-up, across-the-floor exercises and combinations. 

Jazz III________________1 hour ___________T___________Ages 11-Adult
Prerequisite- Completion of Jazz I or II or audition with Instructor.  A complete mastery of Jazz Technique and terminology acquired in Jazz II, continuing with the development of advance style, ability and execution.  A technical warm up combining elements of ballet, jazz, yoga and pilates will be followed by center work, across-the-floor exercises and short combinations.

Tap I _________________1 hour ____________T___________Ages 8-Adult
The student will gain knowledge of the fundamentals of tap dance.  The level of this class concentrates on the learning and drilling of basic steps and combining them to from a movement vocabulary that will result in short combinations.

Tap II_________________1 hour ____________T___________Ages 11-Adult
Prerequisite- Completion of Broadway Tap I or audition with Instructor. This class builds on prior knowledge of tap. Students will cover time steps, pull backs, tap turns, draw backs, and riff work.

Muscal Theatre Dance____1 hour ____________P___________Ages 8-Adult
A fun and energetic study of musical theatre dance styles beginning with a foundation in jazz and ballet technique with a focus on expression and performance. The warm up for the class will be structured like a jazz class with both floor and center warm up.  Movement across the floor will reflect the style of the show being studied.

Hip Hop _______________1 hour ____________T___________Ages 11-18
This class will teach the principles of beginning hip-hop technique with a strong emphasis on style and the foundation of basic terminology associated with posture placement, isolations, balance, flexibility, pop-locking, syncopation and weight shifting.

Dance Company________2 hour ____________P___________Ages 8-18
The Dance Company is a group of elite dancers that will perform on a regular basis at NC Theatre Studios as well as other venues in the area.  Members will be selected by auditions held in the fall.


Singing Classes


Introduction to Singing
__1 hour ____________T___________Ages 8-13
For the student who is new to singing, this course focuses on the basic concepts of vocal production including breath support, diction, placement, and tone color, basic music-reading skills and aural awareness. Students will receive individual attention in the context of a small group setting.

Intermediate Singing___1 hour ____________T___________Ages 11-18
For students who have completed intro to singing and are prepared to further hone their skills in music theory through vocal technique. Individual and group work will be done on sight singing, blending, intonation, breath support, projection, placement and tone color

Sight Singing__________1 1/2 hour _________T___________Ages 8-18
Instruction in music theory including reading notes, rests, time signatures, rhythms, symbols and words of the music language. Emphasis is on oral class participation, some writing, and sight reading exercises.

Acting Classes


Creative Drama
________45 min____________T___________Ages 5-7
An introduction to acting through creative play, improvisations, story telling and movement.

Acting I ______________45 min-1 hour______T___________Ages 8-10
Students use creative drama techniques, basic acting exercises, character study, movement, language and imagination to create their own versions of traditional tales.

Acting 2 and 3_________1 hour_____________T___________Ages 11-13
Students will apply basic and intermediate acting techniques toward working on scenes. Acting 3 students must have taken Acting 2 or had other prior experience. Acceptance in Acting 3 is up to instructor’s discretion.

Acting 4 and 5__________1 hour_____________T___________Ages 14+
Students further hone their skills as developing young actors by working on ensemble building and individual actor training.  Emphasis is placed on character development, Realism, and musical theatre.

Acting 6______________1 hour_____________T___________Ages 14+
This advanced acting course emphasizes ensemble work, character development, script analysis, and introductions to college-level acting techniques. Acceptance into class is by instructor discretion or audition.

Acting Company _______1 hour_____________P___________Ages 14+
This intense two hour acting performance course culminates in an end of semester performance of a short piece.  Emphasis is on realism and anti-realism, college level acting techniques, ensemble work.  Acceptance by instructor discretion.  Students must have taken Acting 5 or equivalent to be eligible.

Beginning Adult Acting__1 hour (8 weeks)____ T___________Ages 19+
This introductory master class is for those who have desire but have had little experience in the study of acting. Actors will work through a combination of exercises and scene study and will focus on using the body and voice to communicate and express emotion. Ages 19 and up. 8 week course, dates TBD.
