LIVE ON STAGE (LOS)

The Conservatory's premier musical theatre triple threat class. Live On Stage focuses on vocal training, choreography and dance and student performances through the staging of musical numbers from Broadway and beyond. At the end of each semester, students participate in a full stage musical production at a local theatre. As much a rehearsal, as a class, Live On Stage is the ultimate musical theatre performance class, and provides performance opportunities for all ages. LOS provides an excellent after school activity, as well as weekend student performance classes.

LOS ELITE CO. ◊ * **

By audition only for advanced students. Professional choreography and higher level of musical theatre classes. Performance at end of semester showcases. Students must be enrolled in one additional class of any kind and originally enrolled in LOS to be considered (after acceptance, students can drop the LOS class to replace it with the Company class.) Live on Stage Company is a 2 semester commitment. Auditions at the Conservatory are required (see class schedule for more info). Live on Stage company students are eligible for the spring New York City trip.

ADULT LOS

Adult LOS (18+)

Live on Stage is a combination of Adult Acting Classes, Adult Dance Classes and vocal training. Live On Stage focuses on vocal training, choreography and dance and student performances through the staging of musical numbers from Broadway and beyond. At the end of each semester, students participate in a full stage musical production at a local theatre. As much a rehearsal, as a class, Live On Stage is the ultimate musical theatre performance class, and provides performance opportunities for adults.

DANCE CLASSES


JAZZ I

T
45 minutes to 1 hour

No previous dance training necessary.  This entry level jazz dance class will teach the principles of beginning Jazz Technique and multi-style performance, including the basic terminology associated with posture placement, isolations, integration, balance, flexibility, precision, fluidness, dexterity, strength, rhythm, syncopation, and the fundamentals of weight shifting.

JAZZ II

1 Hour

Prerequisite- Jazz I or audition with instructor. A mastery of Jazz Technique acquired in Jazz I, continuing the development of style, ability and execution.  In these jazz classes, concentration is placed on increasing dancer’s strength, flexibility and technique through warm-up, across-the-floor exercises and combinations.

JAZZ III

Prerequisite- Completion of Jazz I or II or audition with Instructor.  A complete mastery of Jazz Technique and terminology acquired in Jazz II, continuing with the development of advance style, ability and execution.  A technical warm up combining elements of ballet, jazz, yoga and pilates will be followed by center work, across-the-floor exercises and short combinations.

Elite level dance training culminating in performance opportunities throughout the year and at end of the semester showcases. This is a 2 semester class. An additional dance technique class is required by the instructor. Auditions are at the Conservatory. Check class schedule for info.

SR DANCE CO. ◊ * **

The Conservatory’s premier performing dance class showcasing its brightest dance talent. This 2 hour, 2 semester class culminates in performances around the area as well as the end of the semester showcases. Members must be registered in a dance technique class. HIP HOP

1 Hour

This Hip hop class will teach the principles of beginning hip-hop technique with a strong emphasis on style and the foundation of basic terminology associated with posture placement, isolations, balance, flexibility, pop-locking, syncopation and weight shifting.

BALLET BARRE

45 minutes

Based on traditional ballet, these ballet classes incorporate barre exercises. They improve overall technique while facilitating a powerful body awareness that serves and benefits the needs of dancers, actors, and athletes alike.

BEGIN BALLET

1 hour
Based on traditional ballet, these ballet classes incorporate a combination of floor and center barre exercises for the beginner ballet student. They improve overall technique while facilitating a powerful body awareness that serves and benefits the needs of dancers, actors, and athletes alike.

INTERMEDIATE BALLET

1 Hour

Based on traditional ballet, these intermediate ballet classes incorporate a combination of floor and center barre exercises. They improve overall technique while facilitating a powerful body awareness that serves and benefits the needs of dancers, actors, and athletes alike.

BEGINNING TAP

In these tap classes, the student will gain knowledge of the fundamentals of tap dance. The level of this class concentrates on the learning and drilling of basic steps and combining them to form a movement vocabulary that will result in short combinations.

INTERMEDIATE TAP

Advanced tap class will focus on all aspects of tap dancing with an emphasis on technique, traditional movement vocabulary, development of style, fundamentals of music, improvisation and choreography.

ADVANCED TAP

An accelerated tap class which will focus on all aspects of tap dancing with an emphasis on technique, traditional movement vocabulary, development of style, fundamentals of music, improvisation and choreography.

TAP I/II

Prerequisite - Completion Tap 1 audition with Instructor. This tap class builds on prior knowledge of tap dancing. Students will cover time steps, pull backs, tap turns, draw backs, and riff work.

ACTING CLASSES


ACT I STORY TELLERS

45 min-1 hour
Students use creative drama techniques, basic acting exercises, character study, movement, language and imagination to create their own versions of traditional tales. This acting class focuses on developing creativity and using imagination to examine how actors are part of the story. Beginning terminology established.

ACT II IMPROV

1 Hour

Students will use improvisation and light scenes as a fun way to approach beginning acting and character development.

ACT III SCENE STUDY

1 Hour

Acting students will apply basic and intermediate acting techniques toward working on scenes. Acting 3 students must have taken Acting 2 or had other prior experience. Acceptance in Acting 3 is up to instructor’s discretion. Acceptance in Acting 3 is up to instructor’s discretion.

ACT IV/V REALISM

Acting students use the skills of realism they learned in Acting IV to develop more difficult scene material and learn the skills of ensemble acting and performance.

Premier intense acting course culminating in a student performance at the end of each semester. This course is for advanced acting students of this age and focuses on technique and performance. This intense two hour acting performance course culminates in an end of the year, student performance. Emphasis is on realism and anti-realism, college level acting techniques, ensemble work. Acceptance by instructor discretion. Students must have taken Acting 5 or equivalent to be eligible. This is a 2 semester class. A technique class may be required by the instructor. ADULT ACTING

T
1 hour
This introductory master class is an adult acting class for those who have desire but have had little experience in the study of acting. Actors will work through a combination of exercises and scene study and will focus on using the body and voice to communicate and express emotion.

THEATRE 4 CHANGE

Launched in 2007 at the Boys and Girls Club of Wake Forest, NC, the mission is to use theatre games, exercises, role-playing tactics and processing to heighten awareness and encourage individual change in conflict situations.

ACT VI COLLEGE PREP

This advanced acting course emphasizes ensemble work, character development, script analysis and introductions to college level acting techniques. FILM ACTING

T
1 1/2 hours
This film acting class will focus on scene study in the camera medium. How to have fun and bring their best work to the very technical world of film and television. Students will work on a short film project through out the semester.
