Stage Managers

Teaching Artist

The North Carolina Theatre Conservatory is accepting applications for teaching artists specializing in Musical Theatre Dance, Music Directors and Choral teachers. However, we welcome resumes from all theatre disciplines. We are looking for TA’s with availability for in-school hours as well as evening hours. Learn more.

The North Carolina Theatre is the Triangle’s premiere non-profit professional producing theatre. NCT offers excellent hands-on experience in the performing arts. We strive to provide rewarding projects and rare and exciting learning experiences. 

We are always looking for enthusiastic interns for our Development, Marketing/Public Relations, and Production Departments. Interns work directly with individual department heads and staff and leave the program with authentic experience and insight into the live entertainment industry.

Commitment
There are no specific time requirements for the development and marketing internships. We expect a strong work ethic and high standards of performance. In return, you are treated as staff members and receive valuable hands-on experience. We ask that all interns be dependable, conscientious, and energetic. We work with students on establishing a weekly schedule that works with their classes and other obligations.

Credit
NCT will help you meet your school’s credit requirements; you do not have to be a student to be considered for an internship.

Compensation
Our Intern positions are non-paid with no housing or travel stipend. NCT internships offer invaluable hands-on experience in a professional nonprofit theatre and the opportunity to train with industry leaders.  NCT is a great place to gain hands-on experience that prepares you for the next step into the workforce.


Marketing & Public Relations

You will work closely with the Sales & Marketing Team to assist with marketing initiatives & sales tactics for NCT & Conservatory. You will be exposed to all aspects of marketing, promotions, advertising, patron loyalty, and public relations. You will work with digital marketing initiatives; group sales and you will work within Archtics, the Ticketmaster customer database. Your internship also includes planning and executing show promotions and outreach events. Additional duties include archiving shows, updating social media sites, assisting with Playbill layouts, and various administrative duties. Additional experience available with PR opportunities and work on press items and media appearances. Requirements include strong writing and verbal skills, knowledge of MS Office Suite and Canva, experience with social media, and the ability to multitask. Photo and video editing experience is a plus.

Development

You will be exposed to all aspects of nonprofit fund development, such as special events, grant writing, database management, the annual fund, and direct mail campaigns. Special events responsibilities include organizing and executing opening night parties, patron dinners, receptions, and the Backer’s Club, a pre-performance reception for leading donors. This position can be tailored to the intern’s personal interests, and opportunities for special projects are available for candidates with specific skills. The time commitment is flexible and can be anywhere from 5 to 40 hours a week, with regular hours preferred. This internship is everything you would need to prepare for a development associate position at a nonprofit. Skills requirements include detail-oriented, self-motivated, and should have excellent writing and communication skills.

Production

A production internship at NCT provides direct hands-on experience working on professional shows. You will work in one of the areas listed below and provide direct support and assistance to the experienced professionals working there. While production intern positions are non-paid with no housing or travel stipends, they provide invaluable experience to those interested in pursuing a professional career in the theatre. Areas of focus can include:

  • Stage Management
  • Musical Director’s Assistant
  • Company Management
  • Choreographer’s Assistant
  • Wardrobe (Dressers & Stitchers)
  • Hair, Wig, & Makeup
  • Lighting & Sound
  • Sets & Props
  • Production Assistants (daytime positions available)

Production interns must be at least 18 years of age and able to commit to nights and weekends for a two-to-three-week rehearsal and show run with no conflicts. Additionally, daytime hours during the tech week for all positions and for the entire period for production/company or stage management interns are preferred.

 Conservatory

We welcome applicants of all abilities, ethnicities, gender identities, and ages to apply for positions. The Conservatory is an equal-opportunity employer. We offer paid and unpaid internships. Additionally, depending on the institution, we extend eligibility for school credit and community service hours in the areas of JR Teaching Artists, Production Interns, and Administrative Interns. Housing is not provided.  

Applicants may apply for one or multiple camps. Applicants must meet the requirements before applying and state on the application their schedule flexibility, if any.

Join the North Carolina Theatre Curtain Callers

Do you love live theatre? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Consider joining the North Carolina Theatre Curtain Callers!

NC Theatre Curtain Callers participate in an array of activities in support of the theatre, from serving as advocates for live theatre and theatre arts education, greeting patrons at NC Theatre productions, participating in fundraising events, and supporting NC Theatre Conservatory programs. Membership is open to anyone who has a desire to volunteer at the theatre and wishes to contribute their time, talent, energy, and enthusiasm.

Curtain Callers also raise scholarship money, which is given to the young artists at our Conservatory. The money is raised through member dues, merchandise sales, silent auctions and generous donations. In addition to the enjoyment of participating in NC Theatre and Conservatory events, volunteers are offered a complimentary ticket to a performance. Membership is $30 per year. Membership is also open to students ages 16+. 

Dues
Annual Membership Dues: $30 per season (July – August)
Student Membership Dues: $15
 
Requirements

  • Attend meetings as able
  • Pay annual dues
  • Volunteer at NC Theatre and Conservatory productions and other volunteer events
  • Participate in Curtain Caller-hosted cast welcome dinners by contributing a dish or making a monetary donation
